Golden Apple News:

          • Aspiring educators encouraged to apply to program aimed at growing New Mexico’s teacher pipeline

NEW MEXICO – Golden Apple, a non-profit committed to preparing, supporting and mentoring aspiring teachers, is now accepting applications for its Scholars program. Golden Apple provides a pathway for aspiring educators to enter the profession through a program that will help fill crucial open teaching positions across the state.

“Our first two years in New Mexico have been truly inspirational and impactful as we’ve welcomed 85 students into the teaching profession,” said Golden Apple President Alan Mather. “The Golden Apple Scholars program offers the necessary support to help aspiring educators step into the classroom. If you’re passionate about teaching, we invite you to apply. We eagerly anticipate hearing from aspiring educators across the state.”

Golden Apple believes in the importance of preparing future educators who mirror the experiences of the students they will eventually serve. More than 80% of Golden Apple Scholars stay in the profession for more than five years, a higher retention rate than any other teaching preparation program. If teachers are recruited from the community and teach in the community, they are more likely to stay and help the community through quality education.

The Scholars program focuses on teacher preparation and tuition assistance for high school seniors as well as freshman and sophomore college students in New Mexico who have the determination and drive to teach. Scholars receive up to $15,000 in financial assistance, extensive classroom teaching experience, academic and social-emotional support, job placement assistance and mentoring from Golden Apple’s award-winning teachers.
