APNM Offers $5,000 Reward For Information About Albuquerque Dog Abandoned And Left For Dead

APNM News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Saturday morning, Jan. 19, 2021, an Albuquerque resident found a dog abandoned in a plastic garbage bag near the junction of Amole Mesa Avenue and 118th St. SW.

The dog, an elderly white Miniature Poodle dubbed “Milagro”, was barely alive. The concerned citizen brought the dog to the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department’s West Side Shelter. After days of examinations, treatment, and surgery to remove a foreign object from his stomach, Milagro was still suffering and in decline, so shelter staff made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize.

“Whoever committed this cruel and senseless crime constitutes a danger to the community,” said Animal Protection of New Mexico’s (APNM) cruelty case manager. “Whatever the issue, they could have surrendered Milagro to one of the Albuquerque shelters instead of abandoning him in this way.”

Extreme animal cruelty is a 4th degree felony. Information leading to the arrest and prosecution of those responsible will be rewarded up to $5,000.

Anyone with information regarding this case is urged to call Animal Protection of New Mexico’s Animal Cruelty Hotline at 877.548.6263. All calls are confidential and callers may choose to remain anonymous.
