NMCD News:

The New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) has initiated a statewide lockdown of all 11 prison facilities statewide.

This lockdown is part of an annual event to shakedown every housing unit, cell, and inmate in a search for illegal contraband and assess the security of each facility. This operation is necessary to ensure the safety of the inmates in the department’s care, as well as the NMCD facility officers and staff.

To ensure a comprehensive and thorough operation is completed, NMCD asks for patience from the inmate population as well as the public, as this process cannot be rushed. The lockdown has no set end date but will be lifted as each facility completes the required searches and security assessments.
