Annual Massing of the Colors Ceremony in Santa Fe Saturday

Honoring Old Glory and those who have served to protect her will be the focus of the 19th annual Massing of the Colors ceremony at 9 a.m., June 14 at the Santa Fe Veterans’ Memorial, on the northwest corner of the Bataan Memorial Building at the intersection of Galisteo and Montezuma streets in Santa Fe.

The public is invited to attend this free ceremony.

Veterans, Military and Civic groups also are invited to bring flags representing their organizations and take part in the ceremony, which begins with a Musical Prelude performed by the Santa Fe Concert Band.

The host is once again the Santa Fe Chapter of the Military Order of World Wars (MOWW). Posting of The Colors will be performed by the New Mexico National Guard Color Guard. The keynote address will be given by MOWW National President Deborah Kash. A demonstration on the proper folding of the American Flag also is scheduled to be provided by Boy Scouts of America Troop 53.

Following the presentations will be the colorful Massing of the Colors featuring veterans’ organizations and other community groups bearing the flags of the United States, New Mexico, and their own organizations. Music before and during the ceremony is scheduled to be provided by the Santa Fe Concert Band, the Valley of Santa Fe Scottish Rite Order of the Thistle Pipes and Drum Corps, and guest soloist Frances Fernandes.
