American Legion Post 90 to Host 2012 Veterans Day Ceremony

AMERICAN LEGION News:

This year’s Veterans Day community celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the American Legion Post 90, 1325 Trinity Dr.

All Veterans, their families and friends, as well as the general public are invited to attend. The local theme is “Honoring the Vietnam Veteran.”

More than 3 million men and women served in Vietnam, and more than 58,000 made the ultimate sacrifice.

Veterans Day is a National Holiday to thank and honor the 23 million living Veterans who have honorably served their country in both wartime and peacetime. 

There are currently 1.4 million Americans serving in the US military with thousands currently deployed overseas, many in harm’s way.   

This year’s Guest of Honor and speaker will be Major Dave Carver, USMC (ret.) Major Carver served more than 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He is a Los Alamos resident and Los Alamos National Laboratory employee. He served in a variety of positions in a long and distinguished career. 

Major Carver was wounded four times in action in Vietnam serving as a radioman in an infantry company.

Deacon Michael Irving from Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church of Los Alamos will deliver the Invocation and Benediction.

Deacon Irving is a retired Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force, who also had a distinguished military career.    

We would be honored to have the community join us for the ceremony. Lunch will be served at the conclusion, courtesy of the American Legion.

This is a joint community presentation organized by a variety of service organizations to include the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, Elks B. P. O.E. Lodge 2083, Los Alamos High School NJROTC, The Military Order of the World Wars Chapter 229, Daughters of the American Revolution, Pajarito Lodge 66, the Knights of Columbus Assembly 0688, and a variety of other service organizations.
