After the recent announcement in the Los Alamos Daily Post that Alire Christmas Trees wouldn’t be selling trees this year, owner Andrew Alire said he was inundated with requests to reconsider. Carson National Forest, El Rito District, had announced commercial permits for cutting Christmas trees would not be issued this year due to the potential threat to the Mexican spotted owl, which is listed under the Endangered Species Act. So, after so many requests, Alire decided to travel to Moriarty to try his luck obtaining trees. His venture proved successful, and he has set up his Christmas Tree lot once again in the Knights of Columbus parking lot at Trinity Drive and DP Road. Courtesy photo
