AIA President To Lead Design Centric Activities, Discussions At Barranca Mesa & Los Alamos High School April 2

Evelyn Lee

AIA News:

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) 2025 President, Evelyn Lee, FAIA, will visit her alma mater, Barranca Mesa Elementary and Los Alamos High School April 2 to share her experience on becoming an architect and to listen to students present about their architecture and design classwork.

Lee’s visit, in conjunction with AIA Albuquerque, will provide the younger students with an opportunity to learn about the many ways architecture improves life, while the older students will have the opportunity to hear about the path Lee took from Los Alamos County to leading the largest organization of architects in the world.

Lee will visit Barranca Elementary School at 11:30 a.m., April 2 to discuss with students how architecture impacts lives as well as lead a design game with students.

Lee will then head to Los Alamos High School at 1 p.m. to visit students in building trade classes and to participate in student presentations, taking questions about architecture from students. Lee’s time at Los Alamos High School will conclude at 3 p.m.

Lee’s visit is tied to Architecture Week – a weeklong celebration of the best architecture education programs for children grades K-12.  AIA offers a range of resources to help architects, educators and parents, introduce children to architecture and even consider it as a career path. AIA data shows most architects were motivated to pursue an education and career in this field because of childhood experiences in well design spaces or interactions with architects.
