Kiwanis K-Kids and Builders Club students all over Los Alamos and White Rock are so grateful for the MANY books that have been donated at their school sites and Los Alamos Schools Credit Union (LASCU) to help make school and community libraries in Africa.
Our goal was to make 10 libraries of 1,000 books each by the end of January and we are already three-fourths of the way there!
We can still use more books at the preschool-8th grade reading level, and in addition, we have just been assigned to make a community library, one not based at a school, that expects to serve a varied population.
This is copied directly from their application:
“Our community of Kakwajuok is composed of members educated at different levels. There are schooling students, teachers, small scale farmers, business owners, doctors, pastors and retirees who would like to catch up with books in their old professions, as well as read leisure books: recent novels, physical fitness books, first aid guides, world affairs, culture, geography, self-help and spiritual reading.”
I would like to collect not more than 350 books to meet the above need as we also need to include books for children from babies to high school age. These adult books can be dropped off at my house, 926 Tewa Loop in Los Alamos, in the labeled bin.
Please try to be selective in your donations as I cannot use books that do not fit the above requests. Collections will continue at all school sites through the end of December.
