COUNTY News:

The staff at Mesa Public Library has announced a new outdoor locker system that makes it easier than ever for patrons to access library materials.

The lockers are designed to allow patrons to pick up materials that they’ve placed on hold anytime, day or night. This 24/7 access means that patrons no longer have to go into the library during normal business hours to access books in print, audiobooks, DVDs, music CDs, and more; however, the old system remains intact, so those who prefer to come inside are welcome and encouraged to do so.

The library already offers many digital resources that patrons can access from home, such as newly released films for streaming on Hoopla or Libby, but many physical items are now accessible, too, around the clock without ever entering the library.

The way it works is simple:

Patrons can browse the library’s collections online at LosAlamosLibrary.org, place holds on items using their library card number, and then pick the items up in the new outdoor lockers. Notifications are sent out once items have been placed in the lockers, and patrons will find instructions for pick up on the lockers when they arrive. The lockers are located under the drive through portal in front of Mesa Public Library. Five-minute parking is available on either side of the portal (just look for the signs).

Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza is excited to expand on self-service options that allow the community to access library materials anytime, day or night. Accessibility is one of the foremost concerns for staff, and the lockers eliminate potential barriers to these important resources, whether because of schedule conflicts or health concerns about entering public spaces.

More information about the new outdoor locker system can be found via the library’s homepage (click on the scrolling picture of the lockers), or patrons are welcome to contact the library’s main service desk at 505.662.8250.
