AARP News:

The AARP Foundation Tax-Aide program provides free income tax preparation services targeted at senior citizens and low to moderate income tax payers. They can do most tax returns but there are some scope limitations.

Tax-Aide has offered services at the Betty Ehart Senior Center for many years but the center is closed due to COVID. Fortunately, Century Bank at 751 Trinity Dr., in Los Alamos has generously provided space for the AARP tax services this year. They take appointments Tuesday and Friday afternoons.

Two visits are required to complete returns this year. At the first visit, Tax-Aide volunteers scan all of the tax documents and store the files on a secure drive. The tax payers take their documents with them after they are scanned.

Counselors complete the return using the scanned files over the next couple of days. Volunteers print the tax return when the tax payer comes for the second visit. The completed returns are electronically filed within two days of printing.

Appointments are required, call 505.393.5422 or email 500299029@aarpfoundation.org, to schedule an appointment.
