My name is Antonio Jaurigue, and I am running for the Los Alamos School Board in District 2. I am the proud parent of three children in Los Alamos Public Schools: two in high school and one in elementary school at Chamisa. Each of my kids is engaged in a different facet of school life—music, art, and sports—giving me a firsthand view of the opportunities and challenges our students experience every day.
My spouse is a Special Education teacher in our district, and together, we are deeply invested in the success and wellbeing of all Los Alamos children. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering Technology, a second Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, and completed my education with an MBA. This diverse educational background shaped how I approached my previous service on the School Board, allowing me to analyze issues thoughtfully, while keeping empathy at the center of my decisions.
During my previous term on the School Board, I worked to support students, parents, and teachers at every turn. I advocated for funding for new schools, prioritized equity, inclusivity, and mental health in our strategic planning, and ensured that resources and communication channels were available for our schools and families. I had visited the state capitol regularly to advocate for the district and fight for the funding our community deserves.
I am running again to continue this work and to improve and expand it. It’s hard for me to express how important my time on the school board was and how much I enjoyed helping all of our children to be their best. My goal is to ensure that every student has access to the support they need to thrive, that our staff and teachers feel empowered, and that our schools maintain the rigor necessary to prepare our students for success after graduation. I believe in equity, inclusivity, accessibility, and opportunity for all, while holding high standards so our students are equipped for the future they choose.
I look forward to continuing to listen to the community, engaging with families, students, and staff, and strengthening the foundation of success we’ve already established. I look forward to hearing from you, answering your questions, and continuing the conversation about how we can strengthen Los Alamos schools.
