The initiative, funded by a USDA Rural Utilities Service Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant, supports the State Library’s mission to close the digital divide and promote equitable access to knowledge, skills, and wellness resources.
“Statewide access to GetSetUp interactive classes and the database of recorded classes will be a tremendous resource for all New Mexicans who want to build their skills, explore a hobby, or get a specific IT question answered,” State Librarian Eli Guinnee said.
Residents can access GetSetUp through the New Mexico State Library’s El Portal digital resources page online at elportalnm.org/.
Public libraries in New Mexico will offer live and on-demand classes by GetSetUp. These virtual classes will be open to all residents of New Mexico—no library card required. A live platform launch will be held 1-3 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at the Santa Ana Pueblo Community Library, 2 Dove Road, Santa Ana Pueblo.
GetSetUp offers more than 150 classes focused on digital literacy, including general computer skills, Apple, Microsoft, and Google training, cyber safety classes, and other computer skills. They are taught by older adults and include content in multiple languages and with accessibility features.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the New Mexico State Library to bring accessible digital learning to communities statewide,” GetSetUp President/Co-founder Lawrence Kosick said. “We’re grateful for their commitment to digital equity and excited to help New Mexicans build the skills and confidence they need to thrive in today’s digital world.”
