Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office Announces Completion Of Board Of Registration Process

SFCCO News:

The Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office announces the successful completion of the Board of Registration’s bipartisan biennial process, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the county’s voter rolls in compliance with the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) and New Mexico Election Code. This process plays a key role in maintaining accurate and up-to-date voter rolls, which helps ensure the integrity of elections in Santa Fe County.

The Board of Registration, which meets in a publicly accessible open meeting, is composed of five appointed bipartisan Santa Fe County voters who serve two-year terms in odd-numbered years. The Board is tasked with:

  • Reviewing the list of eligible voters following a general election.
  • Directing the County Clerk to cancel registrations of voters who have failed to respond to notices and have not voted in the previous two federal general elections, or who have confirmed a change of residence outside the county.
  • Implementing other list maintenance provisions as mandated by the NVRA and Election Code.

This year, the Board of Registration reviewed 3,379 voter records. Of those, 3,378 registrations were removed from the voter rolls, and one voter’s status was updated to “active.”

This year’s numbers represent a slight decrease from the previous biennial review in 2023, when the Board reviewed 4,225 voter records and directed the removal of 4,206 registrations following its review process.

The lower number of records flagged for removal in 2025 reflects the effectiveness of the Clerk’s ongoing voter list maintenance efforts. Consistent and proactive management by the Clerk’s staff has contributed to cleaner rolls and fewer outdated registrations requiring action.

Santa Fe County’s list maintenance efforts include participation in the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), which allows for secure data sharing to flag potential duplicate registrations and address changes across states. The Clerk’s Office also receives regular updates from the National Change of Address (NCOA) system and the New Mexico Bureau of Vital Records to help identify and remove outdated records.

Residents are encouraged to verify their voter registration status and update their information as necessary. For more details on voter registration or to make updates, please visit SantaFe.vote.
