LAPS News:

Did you know next week marks the 25th anniversary of the Cerro Grande Fire?

Ms. B’s 2nd grade class at Mountain Elementary School wanted to learn more about this important piece of Los Alamos history. To do this, we created a podcast with interviews of local experts. We also took a field trip to collect data on tree growth since the fire.

For this project we learned about writing interview questions, how to interview someone, how to measure the height and circumference of a tree, and how to make seed balls to plant new wildflowers in the forest.

We wanted to teach people about the history of the fire and how the forest is coming back to life.

If you want to learn more, download and listen to our podcast.
