NMDCA News:

SANTA FE —The Wonders on Wheels Mobile Museum, a division of the New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs, is rolling out its statewide tour this month in its brand-new RV showcasing the exhibit, “Eight Sites, One History: Explore the Past at New Mexico Historic Sites.”

The exhibit, sponsored by New Mexico Historic Sites, highlights the distinctive stories revealed at each of the state’s eight sites, from Indigenous lifeways to Spanish settlement to US statehood and beyond.

“We are thrilled to highlight the fascinating history of our state this year,” Jennifer Hasty said, WoW Program Supervisor. “We have lots of historical objects that visitors can touch and handle, a great way to experience history.”

The Wonders on Wheels (WoW) RV is hosting a launch party to debut the new RV from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, May 10, with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. on Milner Plaza on Museum Hill in Santa Fe, New Mexico, between the Museum of International Folk Art and the Museum of Indian Arts & Culture. WoW staff will offer a variety of hands-on projects, including a Jemez pottery design card-making activity and wool crafts. Educators from Coronado and Los Luceros Historic Sites will also attend and lead activities that tie into their sites.

The WoW is a specially retrofitted 38-foot RV featuring 300 square feet of arts, culture, history, and science exhibits and curriculum-based programming. The WoW team serves all 33 counties in New Mexico annually, travelling around to fairs, festivals, public libraries, and schools, touring the exhibit and leading hands-on educational activities that tie directly to the exhibit topics.
