Friday kicks off the second annual Los Alamos Film & Culture Festival (LAFCF), as preparations continue for this weekend. The most important thing to know is that the VIP passes can be picked up starting at 2:30 p.m., Friday at SALA. Tickets are still available at https://filmfreeway.com/LosAlamosFilmandCultureFestival/tickets.
This year, the LAFCF had special awards designed for the winning filmmakers in each category.
“We are working with a metal artist in Española, Richard Ronquillo, who has created our physical awards that will be shipped to winners,” Jones said.
Los Alamos County has generously agreed to be a Gold Sponsor of our film festival this year.
Ronquillo was commissioned to create the new awards and said he enjoyed such a meaningful task.
“I’m a third-generation metal worker and am blessed that my passion can be shared,” Ronquillo said. “It’s an honor to be asked to fabricate these and other awards/trophies for such an involved community.”
This year’s award categories include: Best Student Film, Best Short Film, Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, Best Editing, Best Screenplay and Best Cinematography, Jones said, adding that Los Alamos County has generously agreed to fund the awards and the cash prizes for the filmmakers. Other sponsors include Los Alamos MainStreet & Creative District, Dr. Frederick and Sandy Jones and Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation.
The LAFCF plans to hold a Q&A session with attendees to hear what they think of each film. They also hope to connect with the filmmakers that submitted this year, although not all countries have access to good internet connectivity, yet the goal remains. You can follow the Los Alamos Film and Culture Festival on Facebook. Additional sponsors include Los Alamos Commerce & Development Corporation, Dr.
Frederick and Sandy Jones and Los Alamos MainStreet & Creative District.
