From the Office of U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández:

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Teresa Leger Fernández was sworn into the 119th Congress Jan. 3 to begin her 3rd term serving the people of New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional district.

“Standing on the House floor of the People’s House for my third term, the responsibility of service is as real as the first day I took the oath of office to represent the people of New Mexico’s 3rd district,” Leger Fernández said. “Standing in that space, you feel both the significance of our history and the promise of our future.”

Soon after being sworn in, Leger Fernández voted against a Republican Rules package “which does nothing to address the high cost of living, help families buy a home of their own, or keep social security and Medicare alive. Instead, the Rules package continues the division, dysfunction, and disregard for working families from the last two years”.

“We know there’s a lot of work to do for New Mexico and America,” Leger Fernández said. “That’s why we will fight when we need to and work for bipartisan wins when we can. Unfortunately, my first vote this Congress had to be against a Republican Rules Package that’s full of hate and fear mongering.”

“It’s disappointing, though not surprising, that Republicans’ Rules Package is full of hateful, fear mongering, and redundant provisions that do nothing to help American families,” Leger Fernández. “There is nothing to lower grocery prices, help workers, or make housing and health care more affordable. Instead, it criminalizes reproductive health care providers who are saving women in crisis at the end of their pregnancies. Let’s reject their distractions. Let’s focus on the real threats to women and work to provide us the protections and economic opportunities which would make a difference in our daily lives,” she concluded.

Teresa Leger Fernández was elected to serve as representative of New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District in 2020, 2022 and again in 2024. She will serve as Chair of the Democratic Women’s Caucus this Congress.
