Fales: On Garden Etiquette

We have had a glorious year at the Demonstration Garden. The Los Alamos Master Gardeners are the stewards of this public garden and have been for nearly 30 years.

It is therefore discouraging when people either intentionally or unintentionally disrespect our efforts. The garden is open 24/7, 365 days of the year.

Please respect the following garden etiquette rules, much like you would if we were present:

  • The garden is for everyone to enjoy! Please leave flowers and plants as they are. Do not collect or remove seeds, flowers, labels, etc.
  • Do not pick all of the fruit! You are welcome to taste the ripening fruit.  A taste may be one fruit per person or a couple of berries.
  • Please stay on pathways and mowed turf areas.
  • Be mindful of trash and items you bring into the garden. Please dispose of all waste in trash bins.
  • All pets must be on a leash (6 ft maximum) and remain on the designated pathways and walking areas. Please pick up after your pets.
  • Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times.
  • No climbing on trees or structures.
  • Do not disturb containers, fountains or statuaries.
  • Do not take our equipment or tools.

We truly appreciate the many people who enjoy and respect the Demonstration Garden. It is disheartening to pick up dog poop or come to the garden to find the fruit crop decimated or pruning tools stolen.
