Dear Friends:
Happy new year! This marks 27 years of providing eye care to this amazing community. I am so grateful for the support!
I am thrilled to announce our latest upgrade in eye technology: Icare Eidon, the first TrueColor Confocal imaging device for ultra-high resolution widefield imaging. For years, I had considered another imaging system, but I did not like the color and image distortion and the very high price tag. The Eidon was much more affordable, and we can pass along the savings to our patients. I never imagined myself owning instruments on par with those found in surgical and referral centers. What this means for you: whether or not you are able to have your eyes dilated, you will receive the highest level of care for a low, additional fee. Your eyes and your vision are well worth it!
This past summer, I finally went back to the YMCA, the first time since the COVID-19 lockdown. Exercise has many benefits, including stress management, improved cognitive ability and overall health. Why would I, an optometrist, actively promote and even prescribe exercise to my patients? Because eye health and vision are closely linked to physical health. I have noted that my patients with chronic systemic diseases are more likely to have eye problems. My marathon runners have incredible retinal health and vasculature.
Our OCT-Angiography instrument continues to be a powerful instrument for the early detection and management of eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration. I recommend OCTA for all patients with diabetes or at risk for diabetes. I have a patient with severe macular degeneration, who is unable to travel due to poor mobility and health. I am able to collaborate with and send my OCTA scans to her retinal specialist to monitor for progression. My OCTA improves my ability to manage eye conditions such as keratoconus and evaluate specialty contact lenses.
Another invaluable purchase in 2023 was a Visionix VX 40 lensometer which gives a detailed, topographic analysis of your spectacle lenses. What this means for you: if you are having problems with your eyeglasses, we can more easily identify solutions and vastly improve patient satisfaction! Our MPOD instrument is an important biomarker for health and can determine risk for macular degeneration.
My staff and I wish you and your families abundance, happiness, and joy in 2024!
Sincerely, Lisa Shin, O.D.
