The Family YMCA
Rain stayed away and the sun shined gently behind billowy clouds for the 21 teams that played in The Family YMCA’s Emily McGay & Roger Waterman Memorial Golf Classic tournament Friday, Aug. 26 at Los Alamos Golf Course.
The event netted $15,000 for Y scholarships and youth programs.
Besides the serious game of golf at hand, players amused themselves with games of chance along the course where they could win tickets for door prizes donated by several local businesses.
Net score winners for the day include:
- 1st place – Jacob Maestas, Eddie Duran, Brian Maestas, Art Martinez (Key Construction Services);
- 2nd place – Laura Crucet, Marcia Johnson, Mark Dinehart, Tony Vallejos (Pig + Fig Cafe)
- 3rd place – Cory Miller, Randal Robles, Chris Rondeau, Ryan Wolf ((LAFD)
Other course games and winners include: Closest to the Pin – Tristan Hill; Accuracy Drive – Scott Wimer; Longest Putt – Robert Romero; Men’s Longest Drive – Scott Havemann; Women’s Longest Drive – Mechelle Taylor.
“We are so grateful to our golfing community for their support our youth programs and scholarships that are helping 50 youth and their families,” Y CEO Chris Daniels said. “This was a great day for our programs because of the golfers, our sponsors, our prize donors, staff and volunteers. We are so glad to be able to gather in order to support each other.”

ABOUT THE FAMILY YMCA
This charitable nonprofit was founded in Los Alamos in 1955. The Y’s policy is turn no one away for inability to pay. In 2022, the Y expects to help 100 individuals, half of who are children, with financial assistance to be in Y programs.
