Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities remind residential and commercial customers that water rates will increase by 4 percent and sewer rates by 2 percent Oct. 1, 2021.

Residential customers in a single-family home that use 6,000 gallons a month, for example, can expect to see their water bill go from $45.70 to $47.52 and their sewer bill go from $55.95 to $57.07.

Commercial customers with a 3-inch meter that use 20,000 gallons a month can expect to see their water bill go from $218.04 to $226.64 and their sewer bill $424.71 to $433.15.

According to Department officials, this is the last increase in two three-year ordinances for water and sewer rates that was approved by the Board of Public Utilities and adopted by the County Council in November 2019.

To minimize the impact on rate payers during the summer irrigation season, the ordinances established that the new rates go into effect Oct. 1 of each year.

Since consumption varies from month to month for each customer, and residential customers in single- and multi-family homes also fall under peak and non-peak watering season rates, a description of the monthly service fee and commodity rates can be found online  at https://ladpu.com/WaterRates and https://ladpu.com/SewerRates.
