On March 5, 2020 I took a big step in my career, and a big risk on Los Alamos. I opened an independent Wealth Advisory Practice in Los Alamos, with Raymond James Financial Services, Inc. as my new Broker/Dealer.
In previous years, I had established my career in Los Alamos as the financial advisor at Edward Jones. Little did I know, life as we all knew it would change the following week. Businesses closed, “social distancing” was a new way of life, students at LAPS and even employees of LANL were sent home to learn and work. Even “non-techy” people learned how to use ZOOM. It was an incredible time.
And meanwhile … my new business thrived. My assistant Cathy and I were busier than ever, opening accounts and getting our clients on the path to success during these uncertain times.
It was not without hiccups of course. We moved our office twice, yes twice, in 3 months. We’ve had frustrating delays in furniture delivery. We have had occasional technical difficulties with our VoIP phones. But we also had victories we could not have imagined – our clients’ willingness to use Doc-U-Sign for their account opening paperwork yielded a near-paperless experience; having secure ZOOM conferences and regular phone calls with our clients – these technologies made our physical office and transition hiccups basically irrelevant.
As I sit in my comfortable office today (I promise, no more moving, I signed a 5-yr lease!), I have a huge smile on my face thinking about those special people of Los Alamos who helped us when we needed them most to get this business established! I must express my gratitude, and strongly.
