Los Alamos Aquatomics Win Spirit Award For Outstanding Team Spirit & Sportsmanship At Swimming B Championship

LAA News:

The Los Alamos Aquatomics participated in the New Mexico Swimming B Championship meet Feb. 29 to March 1 at the University of New Mexico .

The team placed fourth overall (with 12 swimmers) and won the Spirit Award for outstanding team spirit and sportsmanship.

Every swimmer scored points and placed in the top 8 in at least two events. The team had 13 first place finishes, 73 best times and several state cut times while having a lot of fun doing it.

First place finishes:

  • William Borovina, 13, 200 Backstroke, 500 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke;
  • Sammy Nowell, 12, 100 Individual Medley, 500 Freestyle, 100 Butterfly;
  • Helen Slowik, 10, 50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke; and
  • Max White, 9, 100 Individual Medley, 200 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 100 Breaststroke, 200 Individual Medley.

The team is comprised of Madalyn Baily, William Borovina, Samantha Clayton, Ashley McLaughlin, Joshua McLaughlin, Sammy Nowell, Zach Sestric, Helen Slowik, Jacob White, Max White, Zach White and Kohynn Young.

The Coaching staff includes Maribeth Englert, Anna Nowell, Heath McLauglin and Mark Scott.
