White Rock
We moved to Los Alamos in 1967. We were assigned a quad unit on Walnut Street. The Los Alamos Master Plan was to develop North Mesa after Barranca Mesa so the Junior High school was built on North Mesa.
Instead White Rock was built next. Land was set aside for a JHS but it was never built. The Pinon Trail subdivision was eventually built on the land.
We moved to White Rock in 1970 because Home Planning was building affordable houses. We had an unbelievable view of the mountains. In 1994 North Mesa was being developed so the fireworks were moved to White Rock. We had a front row seat for the fireworks and had parties so people could watch them from our yard.
I can no longer see the mountains or the fireworks. The price of the house did not include the view. People need a place to live.
The schools plan to develop their land for affordable housing is the right thing to do. People should not have to commute to work because they can’t afford to live where their workplace is located.
