SPORTS News:

The Hilltoppers showed a much improved defense, covering well and bringing an active blocking game to Capital High last Tuesday in Santa Fe.

It turned out that serving errors and untimely passing as well as some poor decisions in offense proved to be the undoing for Los Alamos.

Although a loss in five sets, the Toppers seem prepared for District play, which opens Tuesday evening in Los Alamos with Moriarty.

Natalie Gallegos led the way with 20 kills and 13 blocks for points. Michaela Gonzales had eight kills, Eden Schmierer had nine kills and four aces at the service line. Aerial Edkin added four aces as well and picked up her game in sets 4 and 5.

The Toppers are in a similar situation to last season, which required a strong district push to make State. A task they were up to last year and seem to be moving into the eight match stretch this season.
