Longtime Los Alamos resident and local artist Petr Jandacek is opening his home to the community 5-7:30 p.m. today, April 17, for an outdoor display of his uniquely crafted Stations of the Cross.

The “Stations of the Cross” refers to a series of 14 images depicting Jesus Christ on the day of his crucifixion. “Walking the stations” is intended as a spiritual pilgrimage and a time to contemplate the passion of Jesus as one walks and pauses to pray at each image.

The 14 images created by Jandacek are distinctive, however. Jandacek chose to represent Jesus symbolically with actual objects such as a crown of thorns and an authentically created Roman whip. The station “Jesus falls for the first time”, for example, does not show Jesus falling, but is simply a pavement stone marred with a bloodied handprint. Jandacek also has recently added a meditation path on his property to enhance the experience.

Visitors are invited to drop by and walk at their own pace. Petr has a special fondness for teaching youth and teens, who are often drawn to the creativity and imagination in his work. Food is provided and four-footed friends of the Jandaceks will be on hand.

Stations of the Cross, 5-7:30 p.m., today, April 17 at 127 La Senda in Pajarito Acres. Contact Petr Jandacek, p.jandacek@gmail.com, 505.412.8472 for questions or to schedule an alternate viewing time.
