NMAA News:ALBUQUERQUE ― The New Mexico Activities Association announces that the State JROTC Military Skills Competition is Saturday, April 7 at Albuquerque and West Mesa high schools.
Thirty schools from from across New Mexico are scheduled to compete in drill, physical fitness and air rifle events. Armed Drill, Unarmed Drill, Color Guard and Physical Fitness competitions are 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Albuquerque High School. The Air Rifle competition is at the same time at West Mesa High School. Armed and Unarmed Drill will consist of Inspection, Regulation Drill and Exhibition Drill. Color Guard consists of Inspection and Regulation Drill. Physical Fitness consists of pull-ups for males, flex arm hang for females, crunches and a half mile run.
The Air Rifle Competition at West Mesa consists of Sporter Rifle for first year or inexperienced cadets and Precision Rifle for more advanced cadets. The Precision Rifle is the same type of rifle fired at the Olympics. The award ceremony for both drill and rifle is at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the main gymnasium at Albuquerque High School.
