Letter To The Editor: County Action Restores My Hope

FINALLY! I had lost all hope that Los Alamos County would take a stand against the downright bullying of our sheriff.

From the first day he was elected as sheriff he has had his own agenda, not the citizens of Los Alamos County, of what the duties of our sheriff should be. And, he has been trying his best to shove it down our throats.

Last year it was placed on a ballot about whether the citizens wanted to keep or abolish the position of sheriff in Los Alamos County. The citizens voted to keep it and not by a huge margin. Since then, Lucero has made statements that this also meant the citizens backed him on his agenda to change the duties of our sheriff, and to increase his budget to what he has been demanding. WRONG! Lucero needs to read the words on the ballot, again. No where does it say anything other than to keep the sheriff position, or do away with it.  o imply that the vote meant anything else is ludicrous.

I waited, and waited some more for our County to take a stand against what Lucero was attempting with all his might to do. And now they have and my hope has been restored. I have no doubt that Lucero will keep up with his threats and legal actions against the County until he is stopped. It is going to cost the County lots of our tax dollars to do it. Money that could be spent on really important things this County needs. But, it would cost the citizens much more to let Lucero have his way. He and his supporters (yes, he has a few) are responsible for the monetary costs to the County, and to the negativity his actions and statements have created. With all the sad and bad things happening in our world today, this is the last thing we need.

As a citizen of this County the last thing I want is a bully in the position of sheriff, or any position, for that matter.
