MUSIC News:
The Albuquerque & Four Corners Pipes and Drums will present an informal, outdoor “practice” starting at 6 p.m. Wednesday on the western grass at Ashley Pond Park in Los Alamos.
The band will play both traditional and contemporary music of the Highland bagpipe with drum ensemble. The group first played in 1984 with pipers and drummers from two area bands; today band members are all from Los Alamos.
The band is led by Pipe Major Anthony Puckett of Los Alamos; pipers are Ethan Aulwes, Tristan Goodwin, Don Machen, Leslie Puckett and Josh Spencer. Snare drummers are Caroline Spaeth and Sheila McClees. Margaret Guthrie is the tenor drummer and Christine Rand is the base drummer.
Many people love bagpipes and don’t get a chance to hear them that often, so this is an opportunity to hear the group playing tunes that keep the audience tapping their toes. It is not just the listeners who enjoy the music; the group also has fun and enjoys just playing Celtic music.
It seems the music attracts the attention of many people. The mesmerizing music of the clans, which celebrates victory and loss and heroes, seems to hold a special interest around the world.
The group practices weekly at Bethlehem Lutheran Church—New members are welcome.
