WIPP News:
WIPP recently placed a new emergency response vehicle into service. The new fire engine “Engine 24” will enhance emergency response capabilities at the WIPP facility.
The new four-wheel drive vehicle was designed to respond to both structure and wild land fires. Capable of carrying 1,500 gallons of water on board, the engine has the ability to spray water or foam through a remote-controlled turret located on the front bumper while driving. Engine 24 was commissioned in the long-standing fire service tradition of driving through a water wash, being dried off and then pushed into the fire bay.
WIPP’s emergency management program has added additional emergency response vehicles to both surface and the underground fleets. They also have made numerous changes and enhancements to the overall emergency response capabilities at the WIPP facility. WIPP’s priority continues to be the safety of the employees, the public and the environment.
The City of Carlsbad and DOE will co-host its Town Hall meeting featuring updates on WIPP recovery activities. The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 5 in the Carlsbad City Council Chambers, 101 N. Halagueno St. Live streaming of the meeting can be seen at https:////new.livestream.com/rrv/.
