Festival Of Voices To Ring In Holidays At Popejoy Hall

ALBUQUERQUE – The second annual Holiday Festival of Voices showcasing the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus and the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program’s Choruses and Chamber Orchestra will fill Albuquerque’s Popejoy Hall with beautiful music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12.
 
More than 200 New Mexico musicians will present a range of festive and inspirational music, culminating in Vivaldi’s exuberant Gloria.
 
“Last year’s Festival of Voices brought so much joy and praise,” said Roger Melone, director of the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus. “So we wanted to join with the very talented musicians from the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program’s Choruses and Chamber Orchestra for a second annual Festival concert. We’re also very excited to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Vivaldi’s wonderful Gloria. Without a doubt, this Festival of Voices concert is a must for the holidays.”
 
Individual reserved seating tickets are now on sale for $20 and $35, with student and youth prices of $15 and $26. Tickets may be purchased online at NMSChorus.org, in person at Albertsons Supermarkets, the University of New Mexico (UNM) Bookstore, the UNM Ticket Office at the Pit and by calling 505.925.5858.
 
“We are thrilled for our young musicians to once again perform alongside the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus members,” said Sayra Siverson, music director of the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program. “With the wonderful music selections and the talent that will be on stage, this concert should be a sellout.”
 
Groups from the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program (AYSP) performing in the Dec. 12 concert will be the Chamber Orchestra, Youth Chorus, Junior Chorus and Preparatory Chorus.

ABOUT THE NEW MEXICO SYMPHONIC CHORUS The more than 70 members of the New Mexico Symphonic Chorus and Music Director Roger Melone perform with the highest levels of artistic excellence and enjoyment to appreciative New Mexico audiences. Under the direction of Melone since 1983, the Chorus in 2014-15 is in its 42nd season as an ensemble and its fourth season as a stand-alone organization, preserving the tradition of a chorus that has gained a national reputation. Accolades include a Bravo Award from the Albuquerque Arts Alliance in 1999, as well as multiple invitations to the Bravo! ABOUT THE ALBUQUERQUE YOUTH SYMPHONY PROGRAM The Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program seeks to instill a lifelong passion for music in motivated young people in the greater Albuquerque area through the pursuit of excellence in orchestral and choral musical performance. The Program’s choral groups, now in their third full season, include three performing choirs (Preparatory Chorus, Junior Chorus and Youth Chorus). These ensembles, directed by Marilyn Bernard and Louise Loomis, are designed to serve as Honors Choirs to complement the public and private school choral programs in the Albuquerque area. All students participating in the AYSP choruses are also required to be in their school chorus.
