LESC News:
SANTA FE — The Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) will meet May 27-29 in Raton. The three-day meeting will convene lawmakers and state education officials to discuss ongoing public education initiatives and legislative priorities.
Day 1 – May 27, 2026
- LESC will begin its May hearings with a community welcome from Superintendent Kristie Medina of Raton Municipal Schools. The committee will also hear presentations on artificial intelligence in public education and implications for New Mexico, a panel of local superintendents discussing current initiatives and priorities, and an update from the New Mexico Public Schools Insurance Authority.
Day 2 – May 28, 2026
- Hearings will continue with presentations on New Mexico’s Indian education fund and tribal education technical assistance centers in the morning. In the afternoon, LESC staff will present a distance learning update, and Cooperative Education Services will discuss school board professional development and training, followed by public comment.
Closing Day – May 29, 2026
- The committee hearings will conclude with a presentation on school health professionals, a review of administrative rules being proposed by the Public Education Department, and the director’s report.
