ICOH News:

“Understanding Homelessness” – an in-depth and honest look at the causes and effects of this major challenge – is an upcoming free program open to all. It will be offered at SALA at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 16, and at White Rock United Methodist Church at 6:30 p.m. on April 28.

Sponsored by the Interfaith Coalition on Homelessness (ICOH), it is a 90-minute presentation by two knowledgeable and compassionate local speakers – Glenn Weber and Maggie Meier, ThM. This program is an opportunity for community members to gain much deeper and broader ways of thinking about who is unhoused, why, and what makes homelessness so hard to escape. Ideas on practical ways we can help will be offered.

This material is presented in an easy-to-follow style. Ice cream will be served at intermission, making the program even more digestible!

ICOH is a group with representatives from 14 congregations in Española and Los Alamos County that share a deep desire to help our neighbors most in need. In less than 2 years, this coalition has tackled over a dozen projects in Española Valley and raised more than $35,000 to facilitate them.

Projects focus on:

• helping those already unhoused to be safe, and get on their feet;
• preventing at-risk people from becoming homeless; and
• expanding access to treatment of addiction disorders, and maximizing its success.

Seen through a different lens, ICOH is a passionate group of dozens of people acting as partners, catalysts, and advocates. It focuses mostly on Española Valley, where the needs are very high. People of all faiths, or none, are welcome to join this coalition/movement. Information about ICOH will be available at these programs on April 16 and 28.
