Candidate
Los Alamos County Council
To the Residents of Los Alamos County,
For nearly 30 years, I have had the honor of serving this community from within our local government. Today, I am writing to you not as your former County Manager, but as your neighbor, announcing my candidacy for the Los Alamos County Council.
My wife, Suzanne, and I moved to New Mexico in 1994, and we knew almost immediately that Los Alamos was where we wanted to plant our roots. We raised our children here, and Suzanne spent her career working for the Los Alamos Public Schools. Since we retired, our commitment to this town has remained as strong as ever. This is our home, and I want to help ensure it remains a vibrant, sustainable, and welcoming place for everyone.
My career in the County began in the budget office and culminated in the role of County Manager. This journey gave me a front-row seat to the mechanics of our community—I’ve seen what works, where we face hurdles, and how to navigate the complex relationship we share with the Laboratory and our regional partners. I am running because I believe that my deep institutional knowledge, paired with a calm and collaborative approach, can help us tackle our most pressing challenges.
If elected, I will focus my energy, as I did throughout my career, on continuing to improve the quality of life in Los Alamos.
This will include concentrating on some key areas from the County’s strategic plan:
- Thoughtful Housing Growth: We must continue to expand housing options for our workforce and seniors. I will advocate for creative redevelopment that adds density and affordability without losing our community’s unique character.
- Supporting Local Business: Our small businesses operate in a challenging environment. I am committed to finding ways to make commercial space more accessible so our retail and dining sectors can truly thrive.
- Fiscal Integrity & Infrastructure: I take our financial excellence seriously. I will prioritize infrastructure maintenance and replacement and completing the community broadband project to ensure our services stay ahead of the curve.
- Environmental Responsibility: Protecting our mesas and canyons is a shared duty. I will support the implementation of our Climate Action Plan, focusing on practical steps for renewable energy and wildfire mitigation.
I have always believed that leadership is about more than just making decisions; it’s about really listening well and treating everyone with empathy and respect. I would be honored to earn your vote and continue serving the community that has given my family so much.
Sincerely,
Steven Lynne
