NMCIA News:

SANTA FE — At their first regular Board meeting of the year Jan. 19, 2026, the New Mexico County Insurance Authority (NMCIA) Board of Directors approved the addition of two ex-officio, non-voting Directors on the Board, one to be nominated by the New Mexico Counties’ sheriff affiliate and one to be nominated by the detention administrator’s affiliate.

At their meetings in conjunction with the New Mexico Counties’ Legislative Conference Jan. 21-22, each affiliate nominated a member to serve on the NMCIA Board of Directors.

The NMCIA Board created the positions to provide expertise and insights from these two professions on matters pertaining to member claims from sheriff offices and detention centers, which make up a significant percentage of claims received annually.

The sheriff affiliate nominated Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza to serve on the Board and the detention administrator’s affiliate nominated Dona Ana County Detention Administrator Bryan Baker.

“We welcome Sheriff Mendoza and Mr. Baker to the NMCIA Board and look forward to working with them beginning at the Board’s next meeting on March 18,” Board Chair Lance Pyle said. “Their expertise within their respective fields will be invaluable to the Board and it’s stewardship of this self-insurance pool that provides coverage to 28 member sheriff offices and numerous detention centers in New Mexico.”
