Grief Center News:
ALBUQUERQUE – At The Grief Center, we understand that the relationship we have with someone doesn’t go away because they died. In grief work, it is called the Continuing Bonds theory, and it emphasizes that it is natural and healthy to keep a connection with loved ones who died.
Keeping that connection, a continued bond, with the person who died can help with the feelings of isolation and sadness.
The late fall and winter months are especially challenging when faced with grief. The shorter days, less sunlight, colder weather, winter breaks (disruption of normal routine), and facing holidays without loved ones can all add to the isolation that grievers so often feel.
The Grief Center offers workshops that help with honoring that connection, investigating coping strategies, and expressing feelings, especially during the holiday season.
Schedule:
Wednesday, Nov. 19, 1-2 p.m.: Grief in the Holidays Webinar. This free webinar will provide participants with ways to ease into the holidays along with tips for coping with grief, self-care, and how to remember your person during the holiday.
Pre-registration at www.griefnm.org/event/gih/ is required to attend.
Wednesday, Dec. 10, 5:30-8 p.m.: Grief in the Holidays Workshop. This free, interactive workshop will help you plan for the holiday season, think of ways to honor your person, identify some self-care practices and supportive people, and meet others who are also experiencing a loss.
