We are just one week away from the 2025 Los Alamos Annual CROP Hunger Walk and Turkey Trot. Perhaps you’ve seen our banner on the overpass? This is a chance for Los Alamos folks to support local and global efforts to reduce hunger and provide relief assistance where needed.
Join us on Sunday Nov. 23 at Los Alamos Middle School cafeteria; show up any time after 1:15 p.m. to register, get a t-shirt, and turn in monetary donations to the cause. (Food donations are not collected at this event.) Families, friends, teams, congregations, and your dogs can take part; just be advised that dogs are not allowed inside the cafeteria itself due to state food service laws.
We line up for a 2 p.m. start and walk or run the 1.7 or 2.57 mile course, remembering as we do people around the world who must walk daily to get their food or water. Returning to the Middle School cafeteria, we get to enjoy water and snacks, and we sit in hope that our name will be pulled to win a turkey or pie.
Runners and walkers can take the longer course that goes through the stables or a shorter route that does not. Either way, the 2 p.m. start allows the runners to take off at the front of the pack, and everyone will hear their time when they cross the finish line. Just follow the chalk markings down San Ildefonso Road, turning left to the stables, and then heading back up North Mesa Road, returning to the parking lot at the middle school.
Runners and walkers, ask your friends and neighbors to donate money to sponsor your participation in this event. Bring their checks or cash when you register or, if they prefer to use a credit card, give them the link to give online. If you can’t join us in person, you can join in donating to the cause at: https://events.crophungerwalk.org/crophungerwalks/event/losalamosnm
See you next Sunday afternoon!
