On Thursday April 30, each household will receive a copy of the 2026 Voter Guide in the Los Alamos Daily Post. The Voter Guide includes the responses of Los Alamos local candidates as well as state candidates to questions from the League.

On Thursday evening, April 30, in the UNMLA Student Center, you will have the opportunity to meet our local candidates for County Council and Sheriff, and to ask your own questions. All the candidates have accepted the invitation to participate.

Cookies and Conversation start at 6:30 p.m., the Forum begins at 7 p.m.

The 2026 primary is historic. It is the first time in New Mexico that all registered voters will be able to vote in the primary election. Independents and Decline-to-State voters can choose a Democrat or Republican ballot at the polls without having first changed their party affiliation. Voters registered with the Libertarian or Green Party can change their registration to Democrat, Republican or Decline-to-State (DTS) by May 5 online, by mail, or at the MVD. Or they can change their registration at the polls using Same Day Registration. This makes the Primary accessible to thousands more voters, thus giving the unaffiliated voter more impact than ever before.

The candidates for Los Alamos County Council (in alphabetical order) are: Jason Alan Chappel, Theresa A Cull, Joseph F Granville, David E Hampton, Melanee M Hand, Steven S Lynne, Eric Roland Stromberg.

Candidates for Los Alamos Sheriff are David Izraelevitz and Antonio L Maggiore. June 2 is Primary Election Day. Early voting starts Tuesday, May 5 in the Municipal Building in Los Alamos and will expand to other locations as Election Day approaches.
