Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation News:

The Friends of the Los Alamos County Libraries, in partnership with the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, have awarded the 2023 June and Harry Ettinger Memorial Scholarship to Maya Price for her review of the book On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous, by Ocean Vuong.

The scholarship was created to honor those who love books. Graduating seniors who apply are asked to write a personal narrative concerning an age-appropriate book that was not required for school and that has not been translated into a visual medium. The narrative must demonstrate in what ways the book added to the student’s understanding of the human condition or enhanced their life.

For many years the scholarship has been awarded in memory of June Ettinger. This year it is awarded in memory of Harry Ettinger as well who passed away in December 2022.

Price is the daughter of Aimee and Stephen Price. She will be attending the University of Glasgow where she plans to study English literature.

Funds for the June and Harry Ettinger Memorial Scholarship are managed by the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation, an independent organization, which serves as the connection between the community and school district, evaluating needs and investing resources to improve the quality of public education in the community.
