MAINSTREET News:

Sept. 26, Los Alamos County Council proclaimed October as Arts and Humanities Month, which aligns with the national celebration of the same name.

In support of this, Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District co-hosted the Day of Arts and Culture and released the first annual Fall Arts and Culture Event Guide.

This listing of arts and cultural events around Los Alamos and White Rock can either be picked up at the Fuller Lodge Art Gallery, the library, or found online at LosAlamosMainStreet.com/dac.

Day of Arts and Culture was held Sept. 30 and organized by Los Alamos MainStreet and Creative District and the Los Alamos Arts Council.

Beginning with the Fall Arts and Crafts Fair and ending with Salsa Night at Muy Salsas, the performances and events were open and free to the public all day long.

Attendance at all the events held totaled nearly 3,500. After the Arts and Crafts Fair, “Body and Breath”, an exhibition-style concert got underway.

Participating groups included Dance Arts Los Alamos, En Pointe School of Dance, actors from Los Alamos Little Theater’s recent production of Romeo and Juliet, The Family YMCA Kathak Program, Community Winds, Coro de Camara, Heather and the Bad Breaks and more! At Los Alamos Mesa Public Library, “Still Life with Jazz”, co-organized with Village Arts, saw artists of all ages participating in still life drawing and music from the Jazz Project Quemazon Combo.

Later in the evening, dancers and listeners alike headed to the Performing Arts Center to hear Heather and the Bad Breaks. This event brought dancers up from Santa Fe and beyond to swing the night away.

Lastly, Muy Salsas’ monthly after-hours salsa party ensured that dancers and music lovers had one last event to end the day with.

Save the date! The 2024 Day of Arts and Culture will be Oct. 5.
