Five girls and five boys were named local champions in the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championships Council #3137 free throw competition held Sunday, Feb. 5 at Griffith Gymnasium.

These 10 champions earned the right to compete in the district competition, which is Feb. 22 in Espanola and may advance to the state championships at Manzano High School in March in Albuquerque.

Local Champions:

• Abraham Sanchez was the 9-year-old boy champion;
• Isabella Robertson won the 10-year-old girls championship;
• Zachary Jones and Jenna Harris were crowned champions in the 11-year-old division;
• Eli Iramk-Bent and Halle Warwick were the winners in the 12-year-old divisions;
• Antonio Gonzales won the boys’ 13-year-old division; 
• Alicia Gonzales won the girls’ 13-year-old division;
• Uriah Sanchez won the 14-year-old boys division; and
• Michaela Robertson won the 14-year-old girls division.

Eli Iram-Bent won the Knights of Columbus state championship as a 10-year old in 2013 and Alicia Gonzales has won the state championship all three years that she has participated. She will be participating at District later this month with a chance to advance to her fourth state championship.

“The Knights of Columbus would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s local competition and the Los Alamos Public Schools for the use of Griffith Gymnasium,” Anaya said.
