The 2012 Los Alamos Senior Olympic Games began Friday at the Family YMCA with competition in basketball free-throw and the recreational event: Frisbee accuracy.
Abel Castillo (55-59 age division) qualified for the New Mexico State Games with a score of 10 out of 15 free-throws.
He also qualified in the 3-point shot competition.
His score was tops in the Frisbee Accuracy Throw earning 10 out of 12 possible points for 4 throws from both 10 and 12 yards through the circular hoop target fashioned out of two hula hoops.
The top woman was Ann ReVelle with 9 out of 12 possible points for 4 throws from both 7 and 10 yards from the hoop.
All competitors qualified for the New Mexico Senior Olympic Games, which will be held in Las Cruces at New Mexico State University the end of July.
Twenty-four local athletes will be competing in 19 different sports through May 15 in the hopes of joining more than 1,000 athletes who will compete at the State Games in Las Cruces.
