Environmental Services and the Environmental Sustainability Board would like to thank all the volunteers who participated in the 17th annual Clean Up Los Alamos Day Saturday, Sept. 12.
Volunteers picked up litter from all over the county including school grounds, parks and trails. This year, 25 groups and 250 volunteers signed up to participate in Clean Up Los Alamos Day.
Some of the volunteer groups are Girl Scouts, Girl Scouts of White Rock, Cub Scout Pack 22, Los Alamos High School Key Club, Los Alamos Historical Society, Campaign to Re-elect Christine Chandler, Los Alamos Middle School, Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos, Los Alamos High School Eco Club, Los Alamos Public Schools and many individual volunteers.
A handful of volunteers took pictures of their clean up efforts, posted them on the Los Alamos County Environmental Services Facebook page and used the hashtag #quarancleanupla to be entered into a raffle for a chance to win one of three zero waste kits or a composting bin.
Winners will be announced Sept. 30, on the Los Alamos County Environmental Services Facebook page during a live video drawing. For those wanting to participate in the raffle, post clean up pictures on Facebook before Sept. 29, tag Los Alamos County Environmental Services (@losalamoscountyenvironmentalservices) and use the hashtag #quarancleanupla.
As part of Clean Up Los Alamos Day, the County provides a free tipping day for Los Alamos residents.
At the Eco Station approximately 155 residents utilized the free tipping day, 41 residents utilized the White Rock Overlook Collect Center. With volunteers and residents utilizing the Eco Station and White Rock Collection Center, more than 18 tons (36,000 lbs.) of trash was received.
Environmental Services staff also would like to thank Coca-Cola, Zia Credit Union and Los Alamos County who sponsored Clean Up Los Alamos Day.
