Self Help Inc. Executive Director Diane Smogor describes her organization and its need for funding. Self Help, Inc., formed in 1969, is a non-profit organization which provides consultation, advocacy and emergency financial assistance to residents in Los Alamos and the surrounding area. Her presentation garnered the evening’s donations of $100 per attendee and totaling more than $4,000. Self Help, Inc. will use the funds to replenish its ‘LAPD Emergency Basic Needs Program’, which allows the Los Alamos Police Department’s Victim’s Advocate and officers to assist community members in need of critical services such as a hotel stay, tank of gas or hot meal during weekends, holidays and off-hour emergency situations. The steering committee thanks the Los Alamos Community Foundation for acting as its fiscal agent. About 100+ Women Who Care: Founded in August 2015 by Kristy Ortega, Carol A. Clark, Stephanie Garcia Richard, Debbie Shelton and Marvel Kellogg, attended since that time by more than 200 women in the community, the organization has granted more than $90,000 to benefit dozens of local nonprofit organizations.
