Sangre de Cristo Chorale News:

SANTA FE — The Sangre de Cristo Chorale will continue its 46th season with Earth Song at 4 p.m., Saturday, May 18 at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Santa Fe. The 36-voice Chorale is led by Music Director Dr. George Case and accompanied by pianist Deborah Wagner.

Earth Song presents the music of seven composers who explore choral expressions of nature in the celebration of spring. The centerpiece of the concert is Benjamin Britten’s Five Flower Songs, which was composed as a 25th -anniversary present for botanist friends. Music of Brahms, Ticheli, Price, Guillaume, Gawthrop and Forrest round out the concert.

Music Director Dr. George Case

In describing the concert, Dr. Case states, “This concert is a celebration of spring and especially the unpredictable springtime we have in New Mexico. In Five Flower Songs, Britten captures the essence of a variety of flowers, from the fleeting To Daffodils to the slimy Marsh Flowers to the rollicking Ballad of Green Broom. Three glorious pieces by Brahms celebrate the beauty of evening, and other music illustrates the splendor of the earth. The repertoire was chosen to portray how composers throughout history viewed the wonder of the natural world and interpreted it through song.”

Tickets cost $25 for adults and students under 18 are free. Tickets are available online at sdcchorale.org. This concert is the fourth and last of the 2023-2024 season.
