Community News:

Live Theater at the Los Alamos Senior Activity Centers in partnership with Los Alamos Little Theatre presents ACTIVISM THEN AND NOW by Robert F. Benjamin (formerly entitled THE PETITION).

What happens when a passionate activist encounters an equally passionate but quarrelsome senior citizen? ACTIVISM THEN AND NOW addresses this question with humor and compassion.

The community is invited to its staged reading this week at:

  • 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, at the White Rock Senior Center; and
  • 1 p.m. Thursday, April 11, at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.

The 12-minute intergenerational comedy will be followed by facilitated audience discussion and Q&A with cast and playwright. We’ll talk about the play’s issues including intergenerational strife, legacy and age-ism.

Free Admission. No reservations are necessary. The actors will use microphones for amplified sound.

In ACTIVISM THEN AND NOW, inexperienced but enthusiastic, young activist Rosa (played by Kelly Dolejsi) quickly becomes frustrated and impatient with the reluctance of Lou (age 70s, performed by Jody Shepard) to sign a petition that she clearly agrees with.

Lou’s response to Rosa’s rudeness confuses Rosa, who desperately needs petition signatures today. Their clash escalates as Lou reveals her own history with activism and Rosa reveals her grandmother’s advice. Will either benefit by this dispute?

This performance marks the resumption of the Live Theater program at local Senior Activity Centers, in partnership with the Los Alamos Little Theatre.
