‘Balanced Momtality Women’s Health & Wellness’ To Host Pelvic Floor 101 Workshops April 25 And April 30

BUSINESS News:

Dr. Desiree Cassell, Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist and owner of The Balanced Momtality Women’s Health and Wellness has announced a partnership with two local organizations to bring the women in the Los Alamos community two free chances to learn about healing and restoring their pelvic floor, core and more.

The first free Pelvic Floor 101 workshop is 10-11 a.m. Thursday, April 25 at The Family Strengths Network at 3540 Orange St. During this lecture style class, participants will learn what the pelvic floor is, how it is supposed to function, and how to identify when it’s not functioning correctly.

Participants will also learn many tips and strategies for how to manage some of the more common pelvic floor dysfunction conditions like urinary incontinence (leaking), urinary frequency, pelvic pain, pain with intercourse and pelvic organ prolapse.

The second free Pelvic Floor 101 workshop is 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, April 30 at the Family YMCA. This workshop is more hands-on and movement based where participants will review basic concepts of pelvic floor anatomy/function/signs of dysfunction, and then put it all together and move through some breath work and basic pelvic floor and core exercises with feedback from Dr. Cassell.

Those who don’t have any of these issues but still wonder if their pelvic floor is causing other issues are welcome to attend and find out at either or both workshops as they overlap but will be structured very differently (lecture vs active). Many other conditions like back pain, diastasis recti, hip pain and tailbone pain are all intimately related to the pelvic floor.

Dr. Cassell is a Los Alamos native, born and raised, who recently relocated back to town after living in Albuquerque for 12 years. There she got her Bachelor’s in Nutrition and Dietetics and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy while raising her three children. After her first pregnancy, she suffered with her own pelvic floor dysfunction, and like many, she just accepted it as part of motherhood.

After PT school Dr. Cassell got pregnant with her second child and was determined to put her knowledge to the test and was able to completely resolve her issues even while she was pregnant. She became very passionate about educating, empowering and supporting other women throughout their lifespan so that they didn’t have to accept these common issues as part of life. This led to her starting her own private practice, The Balanced Momtality Women’s Health and Wellness in Los Alamos where she uses her holistic, whole body approach to treat women of all ages and help heal their bodies, starting at the core.
