JJAB News:
The Los Alamos JJAB has space available in the Youth Mental Health First Aid training taking place this weekend.
Youth Mental Health First Aid is an evidence based, nationally recognized and accredited course that teaches adults who work with youth how to identify symptoms of different types of mental illness.
As with any first aid class, there is an action plan to help a youth in crisis. Trainees learn how to assess the person for risk of harm or suicide, listen non-judgmentally, give reassurance, and encourage the person to seek professional help.
This class is recommended for teachers, youth group leaders, scout leaders, coaches, dance instructors – anyone who regularly interacts with youth ages 12-18.
Cost: Instruction, Course Materials, and Certification costs are all covered by generous funding from JJAB, the United Way, and the Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation.
Continental Breakfast and Lunch will also be provided, along with light snacks and beverages.
To register, contact Stacy Baker at 505.690.7212.
