The Family YMCA is bringing back its popular weight lifting contest April 30.
Since the mid 80s and 90s with instigation from local health enthusiast Bill Hudson, the Y has hosted bench press contests Tim Gallegos was asked to be the head judge for the contests, so this year will mark his and the Y’s 18th contest!
The idea started because Y members, including Hudson, and LANL employees wanted to see who could press up the most weight in their age and gender categories.
Through this contest, the Y hopes to promote health and fitness in a fun and competitive matter for everybody. Gallegos says the bench press is a very popular lift, and that competing against other lifters is very rewarding and competitive.
The contest is open to anybody who wants to compete and have fun.
Registration is open at the Y at 1450 Iris St.
