Saturday was a busy day at the Los Alamos Teen Center where board members and staff of The Family YMCA gathered for their annual retreat.

The facilitator for the retreat was Cezar Gonzalez, YMCA of the USA Resource Director for Region 4, which includes New Mexico and Texas.

Participants included board members Chris Sierk, Lou Santoro, Diane Delgado, Dick Martin, Maria Wolfe, Chris Chandler, Pete Maggiore, Rod Pittman, Jackie Hurtle, Al Jiron and incoming board member Eric Vasquez. Y Executive Director Linda Daly and staf members present include Diana Martinez, Chris Daniels, Estrella Young, Melanie Chapman, Jeremy Smith, Sylvan Argo, Jake Chapman and Stacey Castille.

Included in the day’s activities was a review of the Y’s recent community need assessments online survey results. Findings revealed desires for social connecting places and activities for adults, as well as the middle school-age population.

Board Chair Chris Sierk says she is very enthusiastic about the future of The Family YMCA in Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico.

“It was very helpful to have board members and staff working together at the retreat. A great deal of work had also been done beforehand to gather information from members and the wider community,” she said. “We will certainly take into consideration the extensive input we have received.”
